FC Kuala Lumpur take on Astaka in a pre-season friendly at The New Camp, Bandar Utama

Teams Impress in February Friendlies

It was a morning of impressive performances from the FC Kuala Lumpur squads as they racked up four victories in their first matches of the season this weekend. Facing Astaka in the Under-8, Under-10, Under-11, Under-12 and Under-14 matches, and MBE in the Under-16 clash, FCKL were focused on putting lessons learnt in training into practice.

THREE GOALS FOR Under-8s

It was an unfortunate first loss of the season for our young Under-8 team, with goals from Tiago (2) and Liam not enough to overcome Astaka’s solid side. The score was even at 3–3 going into the final third but it was Astaka that picked up the decisive goal, meaning FC Kuala Lumpur and Coach Chris had to settle for a 3–4 defeat. The boys will be back strong next week for the first round of the KL Junior League against the Royal Selangor Club.

In the Under-10 friendly, FC Kuala Lumpur put in a dominant performance, taking the game 6–3 over Astaka. Goals from Airil (2), Young, Mouad (2) and Hamza were too much for the opposition and Coach Will was quick to praise the efforts of the team, singling out Young as the Under-10 Man of the Match.

11s on fire AT THE NEW CAMP

The Under-11 side, a new squad for this season, was keen to get off to winning ways in 2016 – and that’s exactly what they did with a comfortable 10–0 victory over Astaka. Adam Akmal put in a particularly strong performance, picking up a hat trick and Coach FIlipe’s Man of the Match award while other goals came from Miki, Nico, Aidil, Nabil, Tuan Adam, Darwish and Shoma.

THREE ON POINT FOR UNDER-12s

Coach Shazwan’s assessment of the first Under-12 match of the season was simple: this was a “good performance”, he said after the game, recognising that while there are undoubtedly things to improve for this side with lofty ambitions in 2016, a 3–1 win against Astaka is a pleasing start. Goals for the team came from Irsyad, Youssef and Bima, all in the second third.

BUILDING BLOCKS FOR 14s

It was a tough opening match for Coach Azizi’s Under-14s with FC Kuala Lumpur suffering a 2–5 loss to Astaka. There were positive performances across the pitch, however, with Qayyum and Fareez each picking up a goal. The players will now look to work hard in training as they prepare for their first game of the KL Junior League against the Royal Selangor Club on 28 February.

 A GOOD FIGHT FOR UNDER-16s

FC Kuala Lumpur take on MBE in a pre-season friendly at The New Camp, Bandar Utama

The Under-16 team, under the guidance of Coach Chris, faced a different side to the other age-groups this weekend. Taking on MBE in what was a tight afair under the hot sun, they fought their way to a 2–1 victory with both goals coming from the boot of Imran. Hazel and Kasyfil each got an assist with Ethan being named Man of the Match.
